This thesis is about the African union and the challenges the African union is facing through the process of globalization. It will explain in details how globalization is destroying the African union states and solutions and measures that should be taken. The significance of this thesis is that its analyze the view that Africa has no choice but to go along with globalization or be left out. In that regard, this research will stimulate a rethink of the development thinking among Africa’s policy makers who are looking for answers to Africa’s dependency problems. Additionally, scholars may undertake research in the near future on the effects of globalization on the African Union. This thesis will look at four chapters:The first chapter will be the introductions, historical background of the problem, nature of the problem, the studies, literature review, and statement of major objectives. Hypothesis, methodology, sources of data and the limitations of studies.Chapter2will analyze the challenges facing Africa union member states which will look into challenges like leadership, economic and social.Chapter3will be the consequences and effects of globalization on Africa union the case of Sierra Leone, and will look at the economic dependence, divergence among African union, weak governing structure and problematic states and the case of Sierra Leone.Chapter4will finally analyze the suggestions on future measures like further integration of African union, three critical measures of African union strategic resources management and conclusion. The purpose of this research is to seek proffer salutary solutions to Africa’s current disadvantaged position using the organ of the African Union Commission within the auspices of the African Union organization. The African Union Commission could be transformed into a fitting supra-national body capable to provide a leadership platform if the organization unite and integrate as one.The historical legacy of colonial rule has germinated into a new post-colonial world order going by the subtle name of globalization. Globalization has come to mean for Africa an instrument of exploitation, using its full panoply of policies and processes that favor rich and developed countries and at a cost to Africa’s own aspirations to grow into a major player in international politics and economics. However, African Union countries themselves have serious institutional weaknesses that have contributed to making globalization work for others but not for much of African countries. In this thesis I will give my opinions in the fourth chapter after analyzing the challenges and consequences in chapter two and three. My opinions will be measures like further integration of African union states with the need of transforming African government structure.More over the three chital measures of African strategic resources management which are:foreign policy, foreign trade, management of African strategic resources. Finally, this thesis will give readers a wide knowledge about the African union and problems facing the African states.will also look at the states and its major problems like leadership problems, lack of unity among nations, weak medias and many more that need to be faced in other to solve the challenges of globalization.like the problem of leadership, many African leaders are selfish and not investing on the union, and the union needs funds to be strong. In this case it is noticed that the African union still need funding from western countries, and because of this funds they cannot make good foreign policies that can stand firm to protect and manage their resources. Also the union don’t have proper administrative commission that can represent the states, and also to make foreign policies. The problem of leadership is a very important issue that the African union needs to amend, then try to unite all African leaders to have one voice and contribute financially to the union so that it can be strong economically to support any finical problem any country is facing in the region, rather than always looking up to the west for help, if so be it then the African union can handle the problems of globalization.
