Korea is located in the heart of Northeast Asia. Since ancient time, Korea has occupied a pivotal position in the Northeast Asia both in geographical location and national influence. In the first half of17th century, the situation in Northeast Asia changed dramatically. Korea’s two immediate neighbors-the traditional powerful kingdom, Ming Dynasty and the newly risen kingdom Houjin, struggled for the balance of power in the region. In this fierce rivalry, Korea became the center of the fighting between the two powerful neighbors. In such a complex international environment, the most critical task for Korea is how to choose the way of diplomacy. Due to different personal experience, point of views on the national interests, the political power behind and so on, the two kings-Gwanghaegun and Injo who were in power in a successive period adopted totally different diplomatic policy, which lead to different effect and influence.Gwanghaegun preferred a bilaterally friendly foreign policy. However, Injo implemented a foreign policy of proximity Ming and rejecting Jin. This thesis study analyzed the cause, the process and the direct result of the different foreign policy from the domestic political background and personal factors, and then compared the two different foreign policies. The main emphasis was to analyze the advantages and disadvantages and the influence to the national interests. The full text was also constructed by this way. The object of this study was the history from1616to1644, namely from the founding of Houjin to the perishing of Ming dynasty. During this period, there were two regimes. The specific construction is below:The thesis concludes three parts:introduction, text and conclusion. The text part concludes three chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part. This chapter mainly elaborated the topics of purpose, significance, research status, research method and innovation.Chapter Ⅱ is about the bilateral foreign policy of Gwanghaegun. This chapter based on the read up of the material historical data, combined with personal experience of the Gwanghaegun, Korean domestic situation at that time, as well as the international situation at that time, to analyze the causes of Gwanghaegun’s foreign policy, the implementation of a concrete manifestation of this foreign policy, as well as the impact of Korean domestic.Chapter Ⅲ is about proximity Ming and rejecting Jin foreign policy of In jo period. This chapter made the influence of China-Korea relations on Injo period as the starting point, to analyze the theory base of Injo’s foreign policy, through the specific performance of the foreign policy in this period and the Qing Dynasty launched two wars attacked Korea to elaborated analysis of the consequences of Injo’s foreign policy to the Korea state.Chapter Ⅳ based on the previous two chapters, combined with the reason of the change of Korea foreign policy in this period, sum up the influence factor of constitute Korea foreign policy; combination impact of this two kinds of foreign policy in Korean domestic, to analysis of this positive and negative effects of the two foreign policy, and compare the reason of their failure.Chapter Ⅴ is conclusion. Through this period, the changes of Korea’s foreign policy make transformation and the situation of Korea, explaining the positive effect is based on the bilateral foreign policy maintains the benefits of Korea during Gwanghaegun period. And indicating the Injo’s foreign policy of proximity Ming and rejecting Jin isn’t suit for the international environment in Korea. So above all the contents can get the own conclusions in this topic.
