The Relationship Between Altruistic Preference And The Willingness To Join Social Organization

In China, different kinds of NGO (non-government organizations) are developing rapidly in recent years which affect our society significantly, such as supporting agriculture and education, protecting environment, eliminating social discrimination, caring the old and children, etc. In order to understand social organizations further to improve the function in our social and economic construction, this article tries to use altruistic theory to explain their rapid development in recent years and to predict their future. This paper introduces the state quo and function of social organizations in our country, and the difficulties they are facing. It also reviews literatures concerned such as government failure theory, market failure theory, the third party operation theory, etc. It also reviews the references about altruistic economy, and finds the reason for the social organizations’popularity that is to satisfy the altruistic motivation, and to help the public to surpass the blocks for public welfare, and to improve individual utility further. It further analyzes its prospect that, because of the development of society and civilization, altruistic motivation will become more and more important in individual preference and also social organizations will have the opportunity for further development. Because the non-profit motivation of the organizations and group members, social organizations will act more efficiently and have lower probability of corruption than these profit oriented organizations. Besides offering public goods and helping the weak, social organizations should cultivate healthy social atmosphere, and improve the public and individual utility by the nice feeling from altruistic activities. In order to improve the social organizations in our country, it is necessary to create convenient environment by enforcing legislation and loosening the severe administration. At the same time, the social organizations should improve themselves and keep healthy relationship with the government.
