A Study On The Integration Into Urban Society Of The New Generation Of Migrant Workers

In China, migrant workers are a unique immigration group in the reconstruction of the economic and society. Since2000, in the migrant workers, intergenerational differentiation and heterogeneity becomes obvious, and the new generation of migrant workers appears on the stage of history. On the assumption of that the new generation wants to settle in the city, the public policy was made and the research was did on how to promote the process of the integration into urban society. The phenomenon of over two hundred million new generation migrant workers integrating into urban society is unique in the academic research of the worldwide immigration. The academic research value of this problem is so great that we can experience the hundreds years of academic research of immigration in the West. In the other hand, how to solve this problem not only relates to the harmonious development of economic and social, but also the embodiment of fair and justice socialism.Based on western migration theory and Chinese public policy research, this paper constructs an analysis frame to the research of the new generation integrating into urban society, following as economic integration, social integration, system integration, culture and psychological integration, and lists some indicators. In this analysis frame, the process of the new generation integrating was interpreted as structural integration and interior integration. The structural integration includes economic integration, social integration, system integration, and the interior integration is culture and psychological integration.Based on1528survey data which were obtained in Shandong Province of the new generation of migrant workers, this paper use the analysis frame to analysis the situation of the new generation integrating into urban society. The survey found that the situation of integrating into the city is poor. And then, combining of relevant academic research, this paper analyzes the reasons that obstruct the integration, following as institutional impediments and non-institutional impediments. In the integration, the new generation has to face so many problems, such as social closure, low level of human capital and social capital, psychological disorder. Constructive measures must be taken to solve the integration problem, on the basis of the enhancement of willingness of the generation of migrant that workers settle in city. The specific measures include to reform urban and rural policy, to eradicate differences of urban and rural household registration system, to enhance the level of human capital and social capital of the new generation, to guide the new generation to adjust psychological state and learn the urban culture.
