The Research On Lee Myung-Bak Government’s Policy Towards The DPRK

During the Cold War, the confrontation between the two sides includes theUnited States and the Soviet Union was disorganize along with the collapse of theSoviet Union,but as the members of these two sides,the DPRK and South Korea arestill at a stalemate in the Korean Peninsula.During the conflict,both of the twocountries to strengthen their own security through the way such as set up militaryalliance with other countries,develop the power of nuclear and so on.Also it lead theKorean Peninsula and the whole Northeast Asia to a security dilemma which is"inorder to enhance their own strength that make both parties more not safe".As the centre region of Northeast Asia,the strategic position of Korean Peninsulais very important.so to maintain the peace and stability of this region is not onlybeneficial to promote the relationship between South Korea and the DPRK moveforward,but also benenficial to sustain the countries of Northeast Asian stability andprosperity. Nowadays,to maintain peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula is moredependent on the balance of power among the countries of Northeast Asia,but thisbalance is very weak,even a policy adjustment might break this weak balance,at lastcaused Korean Peninsula even the whole Northeast Asian situation in the unrest.This dissertation use the security dilemma theory of neoliberalism. with thequantitative analysis method,start with the basis of Lee’s government which draw upthe policies towards the DPRK, research the policies’ main contents andcharacteristics,and analyse Lee Myung-bak government’s policy towards the DPRKresult in the security dilemma in Korean Peninsula and the reasons of itsformation,explore the influence of this policy for Sorth Korea,the DPRK and thesurrounding countries,and the future development direction.Summarizes the reason ofLee’s policies’ failure,and puts forward to set up a cooperative mechanism to remitthe Korean Peninsula security dilemma.
