With the continuous development of the China’s economy and modernization, ourcountry’s population of the aging phenomenon is becoming more prominent, especiallyafter entering into the new century, our country’s aging presents the tendency whichaccelerates to develop, the older people’s endowment has attracted to widespreadattention from the society. Under the premise of living standards improve graduallyand the basic material needs obtain to satisfied, the spiritual needs of the elderly isgrowing strong, how to satisfy the spiritual needs of the elderly has become an anothernew problem in solving the aging population.Under the big background of the national population aging, this article regards theolder people as “the pure consumers”. Considering the current rural living standard isrelatively low to city, the degree of rural elderly material satisfaction is inferior to city,so selecting the city elderly as the research object. From the older people ’s spiritualneeds, firstly overall analysis the spiritual needs of city elderly in characteristic and thecontent, analyzes the supply situation from the self-supply, domestic supply, the supplyof social in three aspects; then through field survey, listen to their heart sound, from theelderly themselves, through questionnaire concrete analysis spiritual needs of contentincluding five aspects: emotional needs, cultural and entertainment needs,interpersonal needs, educational needs, the needs for self-realization, as well as the fivekinds of demand satisfaction; again, finding in the existing problems from thecontradictions of supply and demand, and then in-depth analysis of the the reasonscausing the problems; finally, how to better meet the spiritual needs of older persons,the article puts forward countermeasures and suggestions from the older individuals,families, communities, governments and society and other multiple levels.Meeting the growing spiritual needs of the elderly, for the promotion of economicdevelopment, ensuring social harmony, has an important significance.
