The modernization of human beings is the core of modernization study. Human is the comprehensive of social relations, and it is on the central position among them. Its objective and initiative role in social and historical development was plainly conformed in the works of Marx and Engels. And the study on the motivation of human modernization has received much interest from the researchers due to its objectivity, regularity and basic. In the forms of motivation, philosophy is the essence for it is the guideline to establish values, world and life values, the spiritual source of development of various social fields, and the non-material sign of social development. In addition, as the central part of an independent science, attention could not be solely paid to its philosophical basis, but also to such specific requirements of motivation as the external systems, substantive issues and internal ideals, responsibility and perseverance. This article will sum up and analyze the above-mentioned issues, and present a complete system of human modernization motivation theory on account of motivation obstacles in China. Hope the work will make contribution to enrich the study of human modernization theory.Few ideas in the process of motivation study should be pointed out so that the research direction of this article could be clear.First, there are two possible understandings to the title of the article the Study of Human Modernization Motivation. One is to study the motivation of human modernization, while the other is to study the modernization motivation of human beings. And this article takes the first explanation, which researches the motivation of human vertically and horizontally.Secondly, the modernization and the modernization motivation in this article are only concerned with Chinese circumstances. Only starting off from the local situations could the achievements of the research be more fit into the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Thirdly, the motivation study of human modernization is under the guidance of Marxist philosophy and its related sinicizations. It is a combination of civilization at home and abroad and actual Chinese situations. Besides, the strong political guarantee ensures an ideal humanity and social environment for the motivation study of human modernization.
