"Two combine into one" is the important part of Yang Xianzhen’s philosophical ideas, which has a far-reaching effect in the contemporary history of Chinese philosophy. Based on Yang Xianzhen’s three main works—"Yang Xianzhen Corpus"(the second and the third volumes) and "My Philosophic Crime", this paper makes some comments on "two combine into one" thesis and it’s controversy. This paper will be conducted from four parts.1. Introduction:This part briefly introduces the origin of the study, current research situation and research ideas.2. This part makes a general introduction:Mainly points out it’s background and origin, then analyzes it’s implications and development.3. This part is about the controversy:Chiefly introduces the course and it’s key issue on this controversy, then concludes most of those views.4. This part is about evaluation:Reveals it’s history value, contemporary meaning and limitation, then summarizes the experience. This is the key part of the paper. From the view of Chinese Marxism,"two combine into one" emphasizes the contradictory identity, in politics, it fights the unhealthy tendencies and "fighting philosophy" and also tends to resist some mistakes. In theory, it contains the concept of harmony which is beneficial for us to deal with the relationship between the identity and struggle of contradiction, furthermore, it has some practical significance in building a harmonious society. However,"two combine into one" has defects:it’s ideological system is not complete, the argument is not sound, and it is idealistic to a certain extent. Review the controversy now, it not only leads us to review the relations of academic and politics, but also asks us firmly carry out the "double hundred" policy in academic research, in that way, we could continuously drive the scientific and cultural development and prosperity.
