Food as a consumer goods has the very big particularity, its quality directly influence onthe consumers’ personal safety, a consumer shall have the right to know for the production offood raw material, additive and additives, production factory, the production date, shelf-life,edible way, complaints, telephone calls and such basic information. With the deepening of bigindustrial production and the revolution of production technology, more and more processingfood appears in the people’s visual field; the complexity of the food ways to trade putsforward new challenge to the consumers’ right to know of food safety. Shanghai’s "dyeingsteamed bread" event, a Shenyang “poison bean sprouts” event make consumers suspect foodsafety once again, but also expose some problems about consumers’ personal safety,especially the aspect of protection on consumers’ right to know of food safety still exists aseries of problems that need to be urgent solved.In order to protect consumers’ healthy life better, safeguard consumers’ right to know offood safety, this article begins from China’s insufficient legal protection of food safety, drawstheir advanced experiences from the United States, Japan and other developed countries indealing with problems of food; explores the best protection mode to provide reference onimproving the consumers’ right to know of food safety in our country.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is about food safety problems of the typical case and the case reflects thecurrent problems. This part mainly introduces the harm of Shanghai dyeing steamed breadevents and Shenyang poison bean sprouts to consumers’ life health and draws out this article’score issue. Namely to solve the problem of food, there exists deficiency in our country’sexisting legal protections and need to be further discussed the protection mode on consumers’right to know of food safety.The second part defines the consumers’ right to know of food safety, and explains thetheoretical basis on China’s protection of consumers’ food safety.The third part has a detailed analysis of the current legislation on protecting consumers right to know of food safety and analyses the shortcomings in them.The fourth part explains the advanced experiences which United States, Japan and otherdeveloped countries deal with problems food, especially in fast food and expired foodprocessing and points out that the food safety law of the external force, the internal functionand moral restriction role can curb the effective approaches to solve problems.The fifth part demonstrates how to construct effective protection mode to protectconsumers’ right to know of food safety. Firstly it elaborates the whole thoughts of protectingconsumers’ right to know of food safety. Secondly, it gives introduction on the legal protectionmode of consumers’ right to know of food safety. Again, information disclosure system willbe improved. Finally, this article recommends the moral constraints in the protection ofconsumers’ right to know of food safety, namely the moral restriction mode.
