This essay is based on the datas gathered from "Social structure and social policies of Nanjing "project questionnaires, analyzing the middle class and their attitudes toward new social movement, the definition and compostion of middle class in Nanjing from both the subjective and objective views, and discuss the relationship between middle class and new social movement through regression models. It discovered that there was a huge inconsistency about the definition of middle school on both the subjective and objective sides. Their own subjective recognitions of their belonging class are affected not only by objective factors such as income, occupation.education level, but also by their old generations’socio-economic status and their living areas, etc, which means people’s subjective attitudes are not definitely leading to the differences on class-definition based on reality gaps. The "identity nepotism" between reference groups and relatives can also affect people’s own ideas about their socio-economic status. However, whether or not from middle class has no effect on people’s attitudes toward new social movement. The middle class showed no obvious actions that they would become the main advocates and participants in new social movement. The personal characteristics and living area differences are mostly affecting people’s attitudes toward this movement. The participants of this movement are not difined by class distinction, but are signaled by people’s common concerns to social problems arising from their characteristics and living areas.
