The sense of shame is the ontological basis of human existence. Who have sense of shame are qualified to be human. The sense of shame is the moral examination that human evaluate themselves or the others based on certain ethical standards. It reflects the moral conscience. Education of adolescent’s sense of shame is to achieve the goal:the youth must be accountable for their actions. They treat the negative evaluation from others correctly in the process of seeking gaps outside, examine their own behavior carefully, know what they can do or what they can’t do and avoid shame consciously and pursue honor relentlessly.In this paper, I analyze and compare the definition of shame by current scholars and sum up the meaning of the sense of shame. The sense of shame is a kind of ability that is expressed as self-awareness, self-choose and self-evaluation. It has the function of self-examination, self-discipline and self-motivation. The psychological mechanism which generates the sense of shame is divided into three aspects:Firstly, the youth imitate to establish preliminary ethical standards. Secondly, they will emerge negative emotions when their cognition is uncoordinated. Finally, they must control their behavior in order to avoid painful experience. The ethical nature of the shame is to become a man. Saving face is an ethical reality of the sense of shame. Chinese traditional culture of sense of shame is profound. The discussion about personal integrity, social governance and the fate of the nation is still significant to the current education of adolescent’s sense of shame both practically and theoretically.At present, lack of the sense of shame is a general phenomenon in the youth. It mainly manifested as the lack of a capacity of self-reflection, a sense of self-evaluation and responsibility. The reasons not only come from the youth, such as the distortion of values, but also from the external, such as the negative impact of the network, absence of family and school education and chaotic ethical standards. Education of young people’s sense of shame is urgent and of great significance. Firstly, cultivation of shame is a basic part of the socialist concept of honor and disgrace. Secondly, it is the focal point to resolve the social moral dilemma. Thirdly, it is the needs of the young people to develop healthy personality. Finally, it is the fundamental driving force for the youth to do the good consciously.The paper proposes the cultivating paths in the end against the lack of the sense of shame among the youth, following the law of young people’s ideological and moral formation. Teach them their cognition, emotion, volition and action. We pay attention to the cultural environment especially in families, schools, networks and society. We also stress the application of the law in the education of the sense of shame.
