At the beginning of the China’s War of Liberation, the land system in our country had bothfeudal and exploitative characters, which inhibited enthusiasm of peasants and hinder thedevelopment of agriculture. The social productivity at that time was fettered and disruptedseverely. Therefore, during this period the movement of land reform was a task of utmostimportance.From October1945to January1949, a massive movement of land reform was launched inShenyang and its surrounding area. This movement of land reform was composed of stages ofredividing the "polder area", the reduction of rent and interest, to ensure land to the cultivator,and the equal distribution of land, which greatly improved the enthusiasm of peasants andpromoted the recovery of agricultural productivity. Although during the movement of landreform, it sometimes occurred that the interests of the middle peasants were impaired, farmers andrich peasants were treated too radically, the local upper class with liberal attitude was affected, andthe industrial and commercial development was disrupted, in general, the movement of landreform promoted the regime consolidation and the recovery of the local economy in Shenyang andits surrounding area. It also promoted the development of the society from many aspects andstrongly supported of the war of liberation in the northeast.The body of this thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes thebackground and the strategic intentions of the movement of the land reform launched in Shenyangand its surrounding area during the China’s War of Liberation. The purpose of carrying out themovement of land reform, and the advantages offered by the political and economic environmentin Shenyang and its surrounding area was discussed in details. The second chapter describes howmovement of the land reform in Shenyang and its surrounding area was launched. This chapter isdivided into three sections, describing the rise, climax and ending of movement of the landreform in Shenyang and its surrounding area respectively. The description of the process of landreform is mainly based on the historical data from different towns of Shenyang, which explainshow the land reform policy from the Party Central Committee was implemented in Shenyangand its surrounding area in a systematic manner. Careful attention was paid to combine thepolicy and the historical facts. In the last chapter of the thesis evaluation of the movement ofland reform is summarized, including positive and negative aspects of this movement of landreform and its significance.
