Recently, with the development of new urbanization of China, the level of urbanization improves rapidly. Therefore, the phenomenon of village-in-city appears widely and a large number of cities in China in front with this problem. In the same time, many new types of village-in-city come into being. However, the current researches put more importance in the traditional type, which appears early, and in some extent ignore the new types. Besides, most of these researches do not pay attention to the whole process of transformation of these villages. The community research paradigm in sociology and the perspective of community transformation can effectively remedy this problem.This study mainly utilizes the field research method and we use the methods of literature study, interview and participant observation to collect the information in the process of field study. It intended to apply the community research paradigm and the perspective of community transformation into village-in-city research. On this basis, it analyses the nature and the process of the transformation of village-in-city. Moreover, it explores the characteristics of the whole process of the transformation and discusses how a village-in-city disappears.This study find that the Xiaobeiqu Community experiences three times of transformation, which are half agricultural village after the reform and opening up, the forming of industrial village and village-in-city after1994, the forming of new type of village-in-city during2005and2009. We discuss not only the process, reasons, consequences of the transformation in each time, but also how the labor transferred in the same time. Besides, as a new type of village-in-city, its characteristics in housing landscape, infrastructure, social security, social economy, community-based organizations and external factors are all different from the traditional ones. Finally, the study has a reflection of the new type village-in-city transformation from three aspects, which are modern fracture, late-onset exophytic mode and the future of a village-in-city.
