China had entered the population aging society in 1990s. As the birth rate falling, average life expectancy, and the number of nuclear families increasing, in the coming decades, the elderly empty-nest families will be the fastest growing population groups. China’s rural population have a large base, as mobile populations increase the number of empty nesters, how to protect the elderly’s emotional support in rural areas empty nest families should cause us concern.Through reading some papers, I found that many scholars often only in general study the elderly’s support in empty nest families, and did not distinguish between rural and urban families empty nest empty nest families; or general research on urban, rural families in the old empty nest the economic support, life support, care and emotional support in all aspects, specially in the rural elderly empty-nest families emotional support small research literature. Rural and urban way of life, economic development, traffic and other ideas and after all there are some differences, so the rural empty nest families emotional support needs, current situation and the city also empty nest families are quite different.I believe that emotional support is the most easy to forget in old-age security, and the most important aspect. To meet the families of rural empty nest material needs of the elderly, after care we should focus on their emotional life. Empty nest elderly in rural areas of emotional support the family needs and status by their individual characteristics, family conditions and the respondent’s personal knowledge and other factors. From the study perspective, this comprehensive use of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory and symbolic interaction theory, to the National Social Science Fund Project of "demand-driven rural farmers Pension System" (2008-2010) [project No. 08CSH033] discussion group in summer 2009, four cities in Hubei Province,365 rural residents on the basis of survey, supplemented by interviews of cases, respectively, from the demand, source, form and intensity of four rural elderly empty-nest families emotional support descriptive analysis of the current situation and the application of binary Logistic regression analysis and multiple linear regression analysis of the rural elderly empty-nest families emotional support the status quo factors. Found:(1) empty nest households in rural areas on the emotional support needs of the elderly in general is not high level, the reason is in rural areas, respondents perceived less emotional support, lack of emotional support sense. Emotional support primarily from within the family, spouse and children provided most of the family moral support.(2) Compared to normal families, empty nest families of respondents support the status quo without too much emotional difference, indicating the existence of rural families high homogeneity.(3) Empty Nest emotional support the family status of elderly people effect by personal characteristics such as gender, family characteristics, such as economic conditions, such as the impact of cognitive factors. These conclusions to some extent confirmed this assumption that the old-age security in rural areas among the emotional support often overlooked, is also very important. The above conclusions, based on papers of policy orientation, service supply, the family community building, enriched environment on how the aspects of the concept of rural empty nest home for the elderly own characteristics, needs suitable for farmers to explore old-age security system suggestions put forward countermeasures. Paper points out:to play the role of the government’s macroeconomic policy-making, play village and other grassroots organizations and NGO services, such as the role of civil society organizations to strengthen family reunification, community-building guidance, emotional support a rich environment in rural areas, elderly people in rural areas to guide the correct old-age concept.
