Social Work Services In Urban Empty-nesters Model Research

At present, the aging of population is aggravating and the proportion of the empty nest elderly isconstantly increasing in our country. Then how to provide for the empty nest elderly has become asocial hot issue. On the one hand, the empty nest elderly have less family support. On the other hand,more of them live home. So it is very important for the empty nest elderly that the community canprovide some corresponding service and support. In the background，community elderly supportbecomes an inevitable choice.Based on literature and supplemented by in-depth interviews, this paper chooses to research theelderly in some community of Shenzhen. This survey mainly researches the demand-suppliedsituation of the urban empty nest elderly. This study also uses the existing policy and data.This paper is divided into six parts. Firstly, the paper introduces the situation of the aging ofpopulation, especially describes the research progress from many researchers in China and othercountries. Through analyzing shortcomings of the current research, the paper put forward that socialwork is very important to the community support for the empty nest elderly. Secondly, the paperpresents some related concepts and theories, statements the methods, chosen site and the design of theresearch. Thirdly, the paper summarizes the demands and supplied situation of the empty nest elderlyof the household registration and non-household registration by analyzing the literature and theinterviews and points that it is not enough for supporting the empty nest elderly only relying ongovernment and community. In fourth part, the paper proves the advantages of the social work inmeeting the various needs through citing some practical examples that social workers serves theelderly. And then the paper introduces the mode and implement of the social work service for theempty nest elderly. The social work service is center for the empty nest elderly, based on thecommunity and guided by the profession of social work. The last part includes the conclusion,discussion and some shortage of the research.The research shows that the empty nest elderly of the household registration and non-householdregistration both have various needs，not only containing basic health demand and economic demand,but also including strong social communication needs, cultural and recreational needs, spiritualcomfort requirements, policy and information advice demand, security needs and social participationdemand and so on. Although the government and the community provide many economic help, someservice for health and social communication, they supply little assistance for other needs. But thesocial work profession has its own advantages, making up for the lack of the government and the community, which meets the curious needs of the empty nest elderly. So the mode of social workservice for the empty nest elderly becomes the effective choice which is center for the empty nestelderly, based on the community and guided by the social work profession.
