A Study On The Case Work Involved In The Social Support Of Urban Empty-nest Elderly

With the acceleration of population aging in China,innovating the social support system for the elderly population has become one of the hottest issues that need to be jointly addressed by the whole society.Especially in the process of orderly rbanization,urban empty nest elderly are faced with a series of new problems due to the lack of children’s care,the gradual estrangement of peer groups as well as urban empty news elderly’s own cognitive differences.This paper systematically reviews the research progress of nation’s policies and related fields both domestically and internationally.Taking N Community in Guiyang City as an example,this paper attempts to study social support for empty nest elderly in in urban areas from the perspective of social case work.By obtaining information and data through interviews and observations with empty nest elderly people in N community;guided by the theories of active aging and social support,this study explores the role of social support in empty nest elderly from three dimensions: health,participation,and social security.The study finds that the formal and informal social support networks for empty nest elderly in the community are relatively weak,which makes the diverse needs of empty nest elderly in N community in terms of emotional support,medical care,and daily care not effectively met.Therefore,this paper conducts conducts targeted case intervention work on the needs of Zhang,an empty nest elderly person in N community,from both formal and informal social support perspectives.During the service process,the social worker helps the service object obtain two daytime-dining service provided by the government and reduce her economic expenses.expenses.By encouraging the service object to participate in community activities and skill training to enhance her sense of social integration,the social worker links resources in another community to assist the service object to gain employment and increasesd her income.While participating in community activities,the service object has established a good interpersonal network and enhanced neighborhood support.Based on the investigation and research of empty nest elderly in N community of Guiyang city and relevantly theoretical foundations,this paper reflects on the case intervention services from three aspects: service effectiveness,guidance theory,and the role played by the social worker.Exactly,this paepr innovatively proposes social support suggestions for urban empty nest elderly in various ways: Specifically,the paper includes the government to integrate resources,supply social support and build employment information platforms for urban empty nest elderly for the purpose of providing job opportunities and to offer employment training,improve macro policies as well.The community should carry out diversified health lectures to assist ensuring good health condition.Social workers should improve their comprehensive literacy in serving empty nest elderly in cities,and better realize the effect of helping others and helping themselves.Moreover,actively promoting family participation measures are supposed to be taken,too.In order to furtherly play the role of social support and promote the active aging of empty nest elderly in cities,this study has the theoretical significance of actively promoting the localization of aging theory and expanding case work methods.Meanwhile,the paper has strongly practical significance in serving urban empty nest elderly and providing practical experience for social workers.
