There is an essential premise for Special Olympics that the participants must be allintellectual disabilities’ people. Studies have shown that Special Olympics can improve and enhancetheir physical and mentally health, and even play an important role in their social adaptation. The latestdata tells the number of retarded people in China has reached82,980,000. To improve the livingcondition and qualities of the retarded people has become a hot social concern. And it is an importantfactor that embodies the social justice, and promotes the social harmonization.Thus, it is a pressing urgency to promote the extensive development of Special Olympics and tolearn more about the carrying of the Special Olympics in our country. What’s more, strengthen thestudy of countermeasures towards the development of Special Olympics and leading more retardedpeople to participate in the Special Olympics is also extremely urgent.This study is based on this starting point, and an investigation analysis has been carried out,which is about the Special Olympics current situation in Jiangxi province. This paper takes thefollowing ways as literature, expert interviews, questionnaires, statistics, and logical analysis toinvestigate. And the status of Jiangxi Special Olympic is as research subject in this thesis, theinvestigation objects are some county, city and Jiangxi province’s CDPF leaders, some experts, SpecialOlympics (listing) school teacher in Jiangxi Province, parents and some teachers in the specialeducation school. the starting point of this thesis is close attention towards the vulnerable group, andthis paper will make an investigation through the following aspects as the training and competition ofthe Special Olympics athletes; the quality of the teaching staff and the training site; the educationbackground, income and occupation of the parents of those retarded students. Besides, the cognitivecondition of the parents towards the Special Olympics is also be includedThe findings and conclusions:1. The population of the retarded people of Jiangxi Province is huge, while the special educationschools are short, and the number of the specialized mentally retarded schools in Jiangxi province is farbelow the national average, so those retarded children have few accesses to education.2. A great many elite athletes of the13Special Olympics (listing) schools allow the SpecialOlympics in Jiangxi province stands in national leading level.3. Except the title structure, the education background, specialty construction and the acceptanceof reeducation of the teachers in special education schools of Jiangxi province are not that reasonableand ideal.4. Some special education schools don’t have qualified sports apparatus, and can’t meet thenormal school physical education, let alone the launching of the Special Olympics, Special Olympicsinsufficient funds make the majority of schools unable to carry out the Special Olympics training andcompetition.5. Special Olympic Games can improve the physical and mentally health condition of the retardedstudents and their social adaptation, as reflected in the following four aspects: physical enhancement,self-care ability strengthening, willpower capacity increasing, and sociability improvement.6. The number of male participators is large than the females in Special Olympics training. Mostmale participators’ favorite Olympics training program is basketball, while women trainers prefer trackand field programs more. From the point of overall rate, in the running members are in low rate, no matter in relatively or absolutely counting the male participators are less than the female’s. What’smore, the athletes have few accesses to participate in the Special Olympic Game.7. The education level of mentally retarded student parents in Jiangxi province is low, and thehousehold income is not high, the parents are lack of the knowledge about Special Olympics, the mainaccess for them to obtain the related knowledge is the special education school, it’s quite poor. Mostparents pay a certain attention to Special Olympics and the related news, and they also support theirchildren to participate in this Game. Statistics show that parents’ education level, incomes and theattentions they paid in are positively correlated. Higher education level and income groups are willingto pay more attention to Special Olympics; what’s more, parents’ education level and the parents’supportive attitude towards their children in Special Olympics is a positive correlation.8. Relatively speaking, the Communities Special Olympics have been carried out poor in Jiangxiprovince because Special Olympics-related competitions are seldom held in mostly communities. Lackof volunteer, no propaganda about Special Olympics-related knowledge been held, so there is still alarge gap compare with the National Community Special Olympics, thus conclusion can be made as theCommunities Special Olympics have been carried out poor in Jiangxi province.9. The factors affecting the Special Olympics of Jiangxi province shows the characteristics ofmulti-tiered, integrity.On the findings, the thesis put forth the following suggestions: leaderships attention more,preferential policy; propaganda strengthening, expanding the Special Olympic Games influence;strengthen the rank of teachers; broaden the sources of funding channels for Special Olympics; perfectthe basic-level organization’s Special Olympics contest system; increase the volunteer training. Formintegration development models of families, schools and communities gradually and other specificcountermeasures and suggestions. |
