During twenty-first century, a brand-new teaching model, English interactiveteaching is suggested and applied actively in the field of foreign language teaching inChina to meet the needs of high-quality talents of the society. English interactiveteaching aims at improving students’ initiative, stimulating students’ interest,developing students’ spirit of cooperation and overall ability. But, is the situation of itsapplication as expected? The purpose of this study is to explore the theory andpractice of interactive model from humanistic perspective at English classes in seniorhigh school so as to improve the quality of English teaching in our country.This study examined the current situation of English interactive teaching with themethod of questionnaire, interviews and class observation. It was conducted on224students from two experimental classes of Grade Two in the high school of FengxianCounty, Shaanxi Province and two ordinary classes of Grade Two in a high school ofChang’an District, Shaanxi Province, and also8English teachers from the twoschools. The results show that the situation of interactive teaching at English class insenior high school is not satisfactory. There are some problems, and the main reasonfor the problems is the lack of humanism education.Humanism education attaches great importance to the overall development ofstudents, and students’ emotion, attitude, motivation and so on, it also stresses thedevelopment of harmonious relationship between teacher and students and thecreation of positive, friendly classroom atmosphere. Based on humanism education,this study analyzed the elements of interactive model, including: teaching goals; stepsof implementation; implementation conditions; teaching evaluation. Based on theabove study, several humanistic strategies to promote the application of interactiveteaching in senior high school English teaching were put forward:the renewal of theview of teaching; strategies of questioning at classes; strategies of emotionalcommunication; strategies of discussion in cooperative learning; skills of designing classroom interactive activities; strategies of using multi-media properly at class;strategies of autonomous learning and humanistic education evaluation.In a word, to integrate humanism education with interactive model in senior highschool English teaching is helpful for stimulating students’ interest in English learning,strengthening students’ initiative at English classes, improving teaching effect,developing students’ spirit of cooperation and cultivating students’ ability ofautonomous learning.
