Along with the globalization process of the socio-economic and cultural life,English, as one of the most important information medium, has been widely concernedand also been approved by more people. However, as a subject of basic education andschools, parents and students themselves invested a lot of time and energy in learningEnglish, but not got an satisfactory result. It is also a very important factor that theinherent characteristics of learning styles do not to be valued by the teachers and students,except that students’ external learning strategies are too inexperienced. Second languageacquisition research shows that learning style is an important point of studying students’individual differences, which has an extremely important practical significance for thelearning styles.In order to better study learning English style of the high school students inNorthern Shan’xi, and to propose appropriate measures for the students’ characteristics,the study, in the support of the perceptual learning style theory, the theory of cognitivestyle, the “onion theory” and so on, randomly selected300students of a high school inYan’an City, in the form of the questionnaire, aims to solve the following questions:1)what are the characteristics about the temperament types of students’ personality?2)what’s students’ field-cognitive style characterized by? Does it have a relationshipamong students’ gender, the difference of the arts and sciences and English academicachievement?3) what’s the characteristics of the students like in the learning style? DoStudents’ gender, differences in the arts and sciences, differences in temperament typesand field-cognitive styles and their achievements have a relationship with Englishacademic achievement?The paper analyzed the questionnaire data by the SPSS software and found that:there are certain differences among High school students’ personality, Field-cognitivestyle and learning English style, the students’ different personalities will not affect English learning, but different learning styles have more significant impact on Englishacademic achievement.High school students have their own styles in English learning, and every learningstyle has their specials which is not good or bad. Teachers should teach Englishknowledge at the same time to guide and help students to define their own learning styles.According to the characteristics of students, teachers and students should cooperate witheach other to carry out teaching in order to achieve better teaching and learning effects.Therefore, the study is both the importance and necessity.
