The International Science&Technology Cooperation Of Research Universities

International science and technology cooperation paper is research universities’ important achievement of international science and technology cooperation, and the SCI co-papers could represent the whole level of international S&T cooperation papers. Using scientific econometric analysis, based on the case of ZU University, and comparing it with A University and B University which are the typical high-level research universities in China, this paper investigates the developing trends, the status of cooperation, the distribution of international partners, the main sources of funds and the major disciplines and fields of S&T cooperation of research universities from five dimensions of the number, first author, co-countries and co-institutions, first funding agencies and disciplines of the SCI co-paper.The paper arrives at some conclusions, including (1) the number of SCI co-papers of research universities has realized leapfrog development over the past decade, but there is a somewhat gap between the world-class universities and Chinese research universities in the proportion of the co-papers in SCI papers;(2) The international cooperation partners have distributed more and more widely, and the achievements of the cooperation have been becoming more and more fruitful, but it is still mainly in the manner of short-term cooperation;(3)the coverage of disciplines of SCI co-papers expands fast, but research universities have not given full play to its advantages in the cooperation. Base on the conclusions, the paper proposes bringing more opportunities for research universities to conduct international S&T cooperation, strengthening the support to the preliminary activities that would trigger a major international S&T cooperative research and improving institutional construction of research universities on international S&T cooperation, paying more attention on the development of long-term cooperative relations with overseas institutions and combining preponderant disciplines with the cooperation. These recommendations can provide a theoretical basis and reference for Chinese research universities and related agencies in the formulation of policies and measures for international S&T cooperation.
