Democratic Political Horizon College Students To Foster The Sense Of Modern Citizens

Democracy is the essential characteristic of socialism. Developing socialist democraticpolitics is the essential requirement of socialism as well as the important condition forpromoting scientific development and social harmony. In the process of promoting thedevelopment of China’s democratic politics, the cultivation and increasing of civic awarenessis needed for supporting. As the future of the country and master of the times, collegestudents’civic awareness cultivation becomes the top priority. Because the cultivation is notonly the motivation for the construction of China’s democratic politics, but also theconstruction of the ideological foundation of the socialist political civilization. In turn, thedevelopment of democratic politics also propel civic awareness towards maturity andperfection. However, due to historical and realistic factors, on the whole, the college studentsare short of civic awareness which are shown as the ambiguous understanding of citizenship,the lack of consciousness, legal awareness, public morality awareness, sense of participation,right and obligation awareness, and the sense of responsibility. The reasons which attribute tothe college students’lack of civic awareness are the decadent ideas in the traditional culturesuppressing human nature, the inefficient political system hindering the pursuit of their rights,the planned economic system weakening the awareness of the social roles of the members ofsociety, the lack of school education on civic awareness. All these backward hinder thedevelopment of modern civic awareness and maturity. The primary condition for collegestudents to become egilible builders and reliable successors is to be qualified citizens. Inaddition, to improve the civic education of college students, and to promote students’ allaround development are the inevitable requirements of democracy. Specifically, several aspects should be focused on: improving civic education system, promoting the constructionof spiritual civilization, deepening political reform, creating a good cultural atmosphere,strengthening the social practices.
