| Nanjing University is a famous university in China. The history of Nanjing University dates from1902when it was known as Sanjiang Normal School. During the following decades, it evolved as Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, the Fourth Zhongshan University, National Central University and Nanjing University. In the adjustment of nationwide colleges and universities in1952, the colleges of arts and science of Nanjing University is combined with the colleges of arts and science of the University of Nanking, the new Nanjing University was established. During the one hundred and ten years, Nanjing University has educated a large number of elitists for the development of nation and society. In the process of cultivating talents, postgraduate education of Nanjing University has played an important role. In the history of Nanjing University, the postgraduate education has played a significant role in improving the level of Nanjing University. The level of postgraduate education is the best in the nation. However, now more studies have focused on postgraduate education of a particular period or a particular aspect of Nanjing University. No one has conducted a research on the overall history of Nanjing University’s postgraduate education. Therefore, it is significant to have a comprehensive research on the history of Nanjing University’s postgraduate education.The thesis aims to review the history of Nanjing University’s postgraduate education from the aspects of establishments of educational institutions, recruitment, cultivation and conferment of degrees. The research tries to summarize the developmental experience and enlightenment of Nanjing University’s postgraduate education, hoping to better Nanjing University’s postgraduate education in the future. The thesis mainly uses the history document method to review the history of Nanjing Univesity’s postgraduate education, attempting to analyze the characteristics of different periods and to reveal the developmental experience and enlightenment.The thesis consists of six parts. The first chapter introduces the background of the research, literature review, purpose and significance of the research, the main contents and methods of the research. The second chapter shows an overview about the histoy of the University of Nanking’s postgraduate education, including the establishments of institutions, recruitment, training, conferment of degrees. This chapter tries to summarize the features of University of Nanking’s postgraduate education. The third chapter reviews the history of Southeast University and National Central University’s postgraduate education, including the preparation of the institutes of Southeast University and National Central University’s postgraduate education. This chapter attempts to explore the characteristics of National Central University’s postgraduate education. The fourth chapter provides an overview of the postgraduate education’s history from1949to1965, summarizing the charactistics of postgraduate education in the period. The fifth chapter focuses on the developmental history of Nanjing University’s postgraduate education since reform and opening up. The sixth chapter summarizes the historical experience and enlightenment of Nanjing University’s postgraduate education. Firstly, the development of postgraduate education requires a stable external environment; Secondly, it needs to establish and improve relevant rules and regulations; thirdly, we must pay more attention to improving the quality of postgraduate eduction. |
