"Respect the senior people as your parents,take care of the junior people as your kids." With the development of economy, the improvement of people’s living standard and health care, and the family planning policy strictly enforced, the speed of aging population is also accelerating. According to the sixth census statistics, it shows that:in2000, people in china aged60or above is10percent of the total population; in2010, the proportion of people aged60or older has reached to13.26%(178million). In the next five years, the proportion of elderly population will be over15%. Datong, Shanxi Province is the second largest city, and aging is increasing. Therefore, it is the responsibility and obligation of our sports workers to concern about the lives of senior citizens and to understand the status of physical exercise.1、Although senior citizens have low level of education, their attitude toward physical exercise is positive and active,58.8%of the elderly do sports2-3times a week,61.2percent of the elderly can maintain for each exercise1-2hours, which is good stability and continuity.2、The elderly in Datong mainly choose low-load and weak sports. Elderly men are interested in chess, walking, brisk walking, jogging, etc.; while women like aerobics, ballroom dancing, physical exercises and folk characteristics of activities.3、In Datong male elderly people take part in physical activity in the form of "individual", while women participate in sports activities with friends. They are used to choosing the free spaces to take exercise like parks, squares and open spaces; on the contrary, stadiums and other sports venues have not been able to attract them because of charge.4、In Datong senior citizens’view, they are used to spending more buying sporting goods than on the sports venues and training fees; Therefore, the traditional consumer attitudes need to be changed, the modern consumer awareness needs to be improved.5、The main factors restricting the elderly are the lack of organizational and technical guidance and the venues, in addition, they have heavy housework, affairs and no interest.
