Interest refers to a kind of psychological tendency which endeavors to explore somethings or engage in some activities. It has always been the research focus of the educationaland psychological circles. Interest plays a particularly important role in English study,determining the learner’s effort and enthusiasm for English learning. However, in the currentrural middle school English teaching, the examination-oriented education is still a commonphenomenon; English classes are still teacher-centered, neglecting the students’ dominantposition in learning. Boring teaching methods cannot arouse the students’ learning interest,not to mention the positive emotional experience which the students are expected to gain inlearning English. Lack of interest and English weariness have not only seriously affected theresult of English learning, but also the physical and mental health of the rural middle schoolstudents. Thus, it has become a problem that needs immediate action.Due to the above situation, the thesis, based on the writer’s real teaching experience in arural junior high school, takes the cultivation of the students’ interest in English learning asthe research direction in order to carry out a more in-depth study. The basic process of thestudy is as follows: Firstly, it elaborates the purpose, the significance and the basic frame ofthe study and makes a literature review of learning interest. Then the writer conducts aninvestigation report in English learning interest, taking the rural middle school students as theresearch object, pointing out the problems those students have in English learning. The lastpart is to present a set of effective concrete strategies in English learning interest in order toguide future English teaching in junior high schools.This paper is based on education, psychology theories. The use of interview method andquestionnaire survey are much more comprehensive. This article outlines four specifictraining strategies in interest cultivation. On the one hand, it is beneficial for both teachersand students to seek the true meaning of learning and development, to explore the deepermeaning of life, on the other hand, it is easy to guide English teachers’ teaching practice, toimprove teaching effect, and promote student sustainable development.
