With particular body-building mechanism and thick cultural characteristics, traditionalmartial arts is an important part of our great tradtional culture in China. Shanxi is one of thecradles of Chinese civilzation, and in this ancient land, the development of martial arts hasgone through a long history of thousands of years, forming a huge culture system and havingplentiful connotation and extension. As a typical representative of traditional martial arts inShanxi province, Taiyuan traditional martial arts has developed relatively slowly, let alone itstransmission, which is also a common problem that national traditional martial arts are facing. Therefore, accordingly, here we conduct a research of the status quo and development ofTaiyuan maritial arts and it is hoped not only to guide the development of traditionla martialarts of Shanxi province, but also to have a good reference and instructive significance to thedevelopment of traditional martial arts in other regions. The thesis is targeted at traditional martial arts in Taiyuan and mainly uses some researchmethods of sociology such as logical analysis, documentation, contrast analysis, interview, questionaire survey, statistical analysis, field research and so on. Through studying the statusquo of traditional martial arts in Taiyuan and combining the data collected from theprodecessors’exploring and sorting, systematically,we make a deeper and further investigationand analysis of the development and trend of existing traditional martial arts in Taiyuan, clearup its status quo, define its direction, and raise constructive strategies and suggestions for thedevelopment of traditional martial arts, in order to help them flourish more actively in theworld martial arts. The conclusions are as follows:There is a very good traditional martial arts basis and cultural atmosphere in Taiyuan,Shanxi province. And there has already been a certain developing scale and a lot of societies and associations etc. What’s more, a great number of people have been practising traditionalmartial arts for better health. So there are a lot more kinds of martial arts and a greaterpractice density among people. In a word, the traditional martial arts of Taiyuan,Shanxiprovince is a very important part of Chinese traditional martial arts, and is a microcosm andepitome of Chinese traditional culture. Despite its current achievement, there are still a lot ofdeficiencies: the old practising methods, the fault and loss of transmitter, and long span oflearning basic skills and so on.Under the influence of external and internal effects, all thesemake the development turn on different layers and deeply rooted in the earth of culture inShanxi province. However, it is inevitible that our traditional maritial marts have beenaffected by foreign culture due to the foreign strong culture’s pouring into our country inrecent years. Thus, we should change our conventional and conservative transmitting ways inthe past, and adjust to the modern teaching methods,by means of multi-level andmulti-directional study, so as to promote the overall development of traditional martial arts.Accordingly, suggestions are put forward as follows:At first, strengthen the government’sencouragement and support, increase more fund and practice fields in martial arts, and holdmore competitions and so on. And to promote its spreading and development, the syllabusshould be adjusted. Second, during the development of traditional martial arts and Quan inTaiyuan, we should keep up with the times, change the backward conservative thinking andborrow the successful teaching mold of others. Meanwhile, we can try to utilize rank systemand membership management system to keep the overall development of traditional martialarts. Third, we should enhance the propaganda of traditional martial arts, for example, byintroducing some kinds of Quan and good boxers, holding differents kinds of competitions topromote the publicity in order to attract more participants of martial arts.
