| Distance education is a new form of education arisen with the development of moderninformation technology, and it is the primary means of constructing lifelong learning system inknowledge economy era. The open and distance education win people’s trust and recognitionwith its open and flexible characteristics, however, the quality of the open and distance educationis not satisfactory, how to improve the quality of the open and distance education is the mostimportant task of distance education institutions. Academic integration is closely related tolearning quality for distance learners. A higher degree of academic integration could be to ensurethe learning quality of distance learners. Thus, explore the influencing factors of academicintegration is of great significance for promoting learners’ academic integration and improvingeducation quality.The basic train of this research is that theoretical study guides empirical research and on thebasis of empirical studies developed some rich theory.Firstly, this paper describes the knowledge of distance education, adult education, and thetheory of distance learners’ dropout. With the summarized previous research achievements,weobtain the possible influencing factors of academic integration for distance learners.Secondly, on the basis of previous research achievement, we compile the investigationquestionnaire of influencing factors of academic integration for distance learners. Andimplement the investigation questionnaire at Rizhao radio&TV university.Then, by exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, comparison analysis, regressionanalysis, we preliminary identified the influencing factors of academic integration, therelationship between the factors, the various factors affecting differences in changing and therelationship between influencing factors and academic integration.Finally, on the basis of the empirical analysis, we constructed the model of academicintegration and proposed some strategies to improve distance learners’academic integration.Study result shows that,there are six main areas that affect academic integration indistance education: learner characteristics, learner skills, external environmental factors,independent learning competence, psychological factors and academic factors. Six factors areinterrelated and interact with each other, and they together have an impact on academicintegration. External environmental factors are interrelated with psychological factors,psychological factors are interrelated with independent learning competence, independentlearning competence are interrelated with academic factors, academic factors are interrelated with psychological factors, psychological factors are interrelated with learner skills, learner skillsare interrelated with independent learning competence. In addition, there are significantdifferences between different age, sex, marital status, educational background, work status oflearners in the influencing factors of academic integration. According to the analysis ofinfluencing factors on academic integration, this paper proposed five strategies to improve thedegree of academic integration: reinforce the entrance education curriculum resources,rationalization of the units, develop level curriculum resources, improve learning supportservices and develop the independent learning competence. |
