The quality of a thesis of ED.M (Master of Education) is one of important parameters to evaluate master’s quality. And selecting a topic, which is the foundermental step of writing a thesis, exerts greater influences on the quality of a thesis. As a consequence, an appropriate topic is the key to writing a high quality paper.The present study examines171theses written by masters of Education majoring in Eduction Management, who were enrolled from2003to2011. And the present study adopts the method of content analysis to classify those papers from different aspects such as the source, object,the purpose, type, significance, novelty, scope, profession, and trends of topic selection. Moreover the present paper adopts SPSS12.0to do decriptive analysis. The results reveals that the main characteristc, research priorities, research trends of topic selection in Master Eduction. The present paper also points out the advantages and disadvantages of topic seletion in Master Education, and then analysis the causes of its disadvantages. Meanwhile, the present paper uses questionnaire to explore the influential factors on topic selection in Master Education. Finally, the present paper provides some solutions to the problem.The thesis is composed of4chapters:Chapter1servers as an introduction to the study, dealing with the background, the significance, the literature review, the purpose, and the methdolody of the research, and some definitions.Chapter2takes a close look ar the procedures of the research and the reuslts of analysis. And it mainly accounts for in greater detail the background of the sample.Chapter3explores the characteristics and the influential factors on topic selection. The paper points out that novelty, practicability, and modernization are advantages of topic selection, its chief disadvantages are object uneven distribution, concentration of the type of research, and importance of cross-discipinary research. Moreover on the basis of the questionnaire, the present paper analysis the influential factors on topic selection from three aspects, namely, concept, condition, and system.Chapter4concentrates on the methods to improve the quality of topic selection. In concept, in order to select an appropriate,Master of Eduction should fully understand the meaning of documents, position practice, follow the principle, choose a good method, and consider the title carefully. In the system, the present paper believe that curriculum is the base and premise of topic seclection. In condition, diverse teaching methods and the attention of the school are the guanrantee to topic selection. In addition, the supervisor plays a key role in topic selection.;training units and Master of Education must face the difficulties encountered during writing papers with calmness, Master of Education must also keep improving their own quality in order to improve the quality of a thesis...
