Celebration And The Emerge Of Collective Memory

In contemporary China, celebration has become a social phenomenon, which should not be overlooked, in daily life. It is not only limited to itself in our country but also changed for the collective memory. The core of the problem in this graduation thesis is how the celebration changes our collective memory about state and society.The frame of the thesis is political sociology, coming from Durkheim. By encoding the phenomena in the Beijing Olympic Games, I try to expose the actual influence for structuring the collective memory. In some kind of meaning, the Olympic Game is the religion in modern society approximately. The Olympic torch is the sacred thing in sacrifices; the opening ceremony is the power show in theatre; the general public mobilization is the body writing outside theatre. By the research of these sides, the paper wants to study how the Olympic Games create collective memory.In the first chapter, according to the theory of Durkheim, I research that the public generate active worship and negative worship to the Olympic torch, which originating in an ordinary fire and being the sacred thing in modern society. In the second chapter, I dividend the opening ceremony into three aspects:stage, program, property. Through programming, the nation creates many the national symbols, which to instilled form collective to individual body as a sense. In the third chapter, through the state of the population in the etiquette shaping and role imagination from two aspects of the discipline, elaborated the Olympic Games the field of mass mobilization is how the individual in political socialization and shaping of the collective memory.The Olympic sacred cause warm manufacturing folk worship, through the power in the theater in the symbol display and outside the theater body discipline, fuzzy people’s cultural identity and national identity, collective memory for the purpose of ultimately reached manipulation. On the basis of the above analysis, this paper draws a conclusion:the Beijing Olympic Games make the historical memory of culture country and perspective of new China, which can stir up public’s aspire.
