William Heard Kilpatrick (1871-1965) is not only a famous educator of theworld in the beginning of20th century,but also an actively advocate of the progressiveeducation of the United States in1930s.He was a follower and a colleague of Jo hnDewey,and he created the project method of teaching based on his ideas oncurriculum. It has influenced many countries in the world.The first part:this section mainly introduces the reason and the significance of theselected topic,and combs the references of both domestic and foreign scholars onProject Method. I also introduce the primary coverage and the research methods ofthis thesis.The second part:this chapter mainly amplifies the life experiences of Kilpatrickand the formation process of Project Method.In the long life experience, Kilpatrickwas influnced by many thought and theory from numbers of educators andpsychologists in different times."Standing on the shoulder of giants", he advocatedProject Methods,which had a tremendous impact in many countries around the world.The third part: this share described the foundation of Kilpatrick’s Project Method.The formation of Project Method was firstly based on the Dewey’s pragmatismeducational thought.secondly, his idea based on the theoretical of S-R from Thordyke.The fourth part is the central of this thesis,including the content and steps ofProject Method,also some views of Project,like "aiming to do","interest" and"teacher’s duty".The fifth part: the last part describes the influence of the Project Method.Nowadays, many countries in the world give more attention to the Method.There aresome places to improve in the process of using the method.However, Project Methodhave undoubtedly practical signifcance to our present education.
