The scientific comprehensive curriculum Science in junior middleschool is an important part of Shanghai general middle and primaryschool curriculum reform in Science Nature Learning Field. It is a basiccourse which cultivates students’ basic scientific literacy and promotestheir comprehensive development. It embodies the developmentconcept that “student is the centre” and “everything for the students”and the educational thoughts in the21st century of cultivating talentsof research and innovation ability. However, influenced by thedeep-rooted traditional exam-oriented education and receptionteaching, textbooks are difficult to get rid of inclination to knowledge,which hinders students’ development of scientific ability andimprovement of comprehensive ability. Under the background ofinformation age, knowledge explosion and our country’s promotion ofcurriculum reform, we should not only change our teaching conceptand teaching method, but also change our teaching material andtextbooks to meet the educational needs for talents caused by thesociety’s development. The construction of scientific ability modulecurriculum system in junior middle school proposed in this paper followsthe society’s requirements for education and the tendency ofeducation reform. Though there are few research findings for me to usefor reference and there is no scientific proof of this kind of research inour country, I still want to make an attempt to frame the teachingmaterials of the scientific ability curriculum system based on therequirements for ability development and the features of science study.It aims at implementing better in the teaching practice the target ofscientific ability cultivation proposed in Curriculum Standards for JuniorMiddle School Course “Science”.Ability module curriculum is a curriculum system whose goal lies in cultivating ability and whose teaching contents and teaching activitiesare carried out focused on fixed ability aims. Ability module curriculumhas the features of flexibility, openness and integrity. That is, in theprocess of teaching, teachers can choose proper teaching contentsand teaching activities according to the actual conditions of thestudents. Different from other module curriculums, ability modulecurriculum overturns the traditional way of textbook compilation whichbased on knowledge clue. Instead, it is based on ability level and thedevelopment of students’ ability, which cultivates students’ ability morepurposefully.This thesis, in accordance with constructivism theory, guided by theteaching concept of the second curriculum reform, with no relativecontents to refer to, tentatively constructed scientific ability modulecurriculum of junior middle school in the patter of module curriculumand proposed the preliminary project of textbook compilation andteaching strategy. I hope the preliminary adaptation of textbook canhelp teachers systematically and effectively organize teachingactivities aiming at ability cultivation. It purposefully cultivates andimproves students’ comprehensive ability and it is important for thelong-term development of Science course. Meanwhile, I hope thatdear peer counterparts can put forward your precious suggestions tothis thesis and complete the construction of the scientific ability modulecurriculum in junior middle school together with me.
