Through the study on internationalization in this period with the focus on the new developments towards Asia in the21st century, this paper straightens out the developments of internationalization of Australia’s higher education since the1980s. The policies, especially those carried out in the21st century are summarized and the new developments towards Asia since the21st century are examined and analyzed. With a deep understanding of the developments and characteristics in this period, the aims of this paper are to predict the trends, find out the problems, summarize the successful experience and propose possible measures for the problems.Through the literature analytic method, a historical review is done on the three periods of internationalization of Australia’s higher education. By analysis of the statistics and relevant materials, the new developments of internationalization towards Asia are studied. Based on the summary of the trends and problems, some successful experience is mentioned and measures to address the problems are proposed.The paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part including the objectives, literature review, focuses and the terminology of internationalization and globalisation.The second chapter has a historical review of the internationalization of Australia’s higher education towards Asia, discussing the developments in Australia from the1980s to the1990s systematically.The third chapter discusses the new developments of the internationalization of Australia’s higher education towards Asia since the21st century. Starting from the three policies of the government, the new developments and the causes of the recruitment of international students and offshore programs are studied thoroughly. The trends of the developments are predicted and the problems in the developments are pointed out. The fourth chapter is the conclusion, pointing out the successful experience in the internationalization of Australia’s higher education and offering some measures for the problems proposed before.
