The system of College counselors is a kind of University’s Ideological and political education system that suitable for the situation of our country and has a distinctive feature. In college, counselors always stands in the first line of college students’ management. They are an important part of university teachers, they are the backbone force of ideological and political education in universities, and they are the guider of the college students’ growth.Defining counselors’ work duties, strengthening the effect of their performance, is the key of the ideological and political education in university. And it also has vital significance for cultivating qualified socialist builders and successors, for maintaining the stability of the college, for advancing the smooth development of education cause, for promoting quality-oriented education and college students’all-round development and healthy growth.The system of college counselors in our country has developed for more than half a century. It originated from the "political instructor system" in the period of war of resistance against Japan. For standing in the first line of college students’ management, the college counselors’ characteristics and duties have changed a lot. Before the modern time, the college counselors’ duties was pure and simple, they only responsible for the ideological and political education of College students. With the development of society and economy, as well as the changes of higher education itself, there are a large number of new situations and new problems emerged out ceaselessly in the management of college students and it raised new requirements to the college counselors’duties. When entering the modern time-the21th Century, the trend of development of college counselors’ role becomes multiple and complex, and it’s work duties have developed from the simplex political and ideological education in the past to multifarious work duties including political and ideological education, mental health counseling, daily management and class construction, etc. Further defining the boundary of college counselors’ work duties, establishing a scientific evaluation system, promoting performance quality of college counselors and drawing on the experience of western countries. etc, will help performing these duties.
