It is generally acknowledged that writing is playing an important role in the four skills students should be equipped with. However, the difficulty in writing and the low efficiency of writing have long been a big problem in the process of English teaching. Meanwhile, seeking an effective learning strategy to improve students’writing ability has been the focus for many English teachers. A new writing model by cooperative learning in senior high school turns out to be an effective way to solve this problem.As a new learning model and strategy, cooperative learning sprang up in the1970s in America, got substantive development in the1980s and entered a mature period in the21st century. It has become one of the most popular learning strategies in the world today, of which the essence is student-student interaction. It is in the form of group work to accomplish a common goal.Based on the successful experience of some previous researches, the author applied cooperative learning to English writing in order to prove the feasibility and validity of the writing model by cooperative learning in senior high school. The experiment lasting18weeks was conducted in two classes in Grade2in one senior high school. The experimental process included pre-test, experiment and post-test with a lot of raw data drawn from questionnaires, tests, interviews, case studies and daily observation. After thorough analysis and comparison, the author has proved the feasibility and validity of cooperative learning applied to English writing in senior high school. The conclusion is listed as follows:(1) the writing model by cooperative learning can remove students’fear and anxiety in writing;(2) the new writing model turns out to have improved students’writing competence and scores in English tests;(3)cooperative learning advocates students to accomplish a common goal by group work, therefore, it proves to be an effective learning strategy which can strengthen students’awareness of cooperation and teamwork.
