The freshmen of junior high school who just reached adolescence are experiencing a critical period of their lives. During this period, they have to be confronted with not only various annoyances about adolescence, but also the changes in living and learning environment. For the new-added subjects, new teachers, new students and unfamiliar environment, some of them have problems in adapting to their study, lives and interpersonal relationship. However the traditional student work ways in school seem to be unsatisfactory and cannot meet the diverse needs of the freshmen.School social work is the application of social work methods in school domain, which originated in the USA at the beginning of20th century. After over one hundreds years’ development, the school social work has formed a value full of humanistic care and flexible working methods, which has particular advantages for the freshmen to explore potential ability and to acquire self-development, and could remedy the deficiencies in school traditional student work and solve the adaptive problems for the freshmen.The three major methods for school social work are case work, group work and community work. During internship in H middle school, the writer tried to explore the feasible problem-solving models with these three work methods for the freshmen’ maladjustment problem in school. In beginning period of trial, to help the freshmen solving some problems in the transitional period which played an active role to make them adapt to their new school life and recognized by students, students’ parents, teachers and school leaders. The practice indicates the school social work is effective to solve the adaptive problems of freshmen in schools. Therefore, school social work method should be introduced to school’s student work to improve management level.
