Strengths Perspective Freshmen School Adjustment Problems Social Work Intervention

As a special group in campus, the freshmen cannot adapt themselves to thediversification of campus life immediately when faced with the huge differences betweenmiddle school and college life,which can have great influence on their later campus lifeand future career, so it is of great significance to study this topic. However, the presentresearches and references about the students who cannot adapt themselves to the collegelife in education and psychology level from the strengths perspective are very limited.Consequently, it is of great importance for us to study how to get involved in their life,learn about their practical problems they face and fully tap their potentials, resources andadvantages.In order to reveal the real situationof the freshman’s adaptation to their college life,I started a research on their adaptation to the T University by using questionnaires anddeep interviews,meanwhile,I analyzed their performances from three dimensions oflearning, interpersonal relationships and life.I learned about their problems of adaptationto the campus life by questionnaires, and then paid a return visit to them.Finally, Iselected5students of science and engineering, and5students of liberal arts as our teamwork participator.During our group activities,we tapped their advantages andpotentials,relieved and solved their problems.The participators we selected are150freshmen from T university,because of course and time,we finally received a total of146valid questionnaires.This paper attempts to regard the strengths perspective as a starting point,analyzing the roles of social workers and the skills of adaptation adopted by socialworkers through getting involved in freshman’s campus life under the guidance of thestrengths perspective during the individual analysis of advantages to10freshmen.Andsome advice was come up with by social workers for freshman to develop group workservice including learning about their actual demands, tapping their dominant resourcesand developing group activities to integrate resources.Finally,I would evaluate theachievement of team activities, summarize experience and improve the shortage.
