The Primary Research On Living Condition And Social Support Of Community Empty Nest Elderly

China has stepped into the aging society in1999, with the changes of family structure and the mind of people, the development of the society, the amount of empty nest family in city has developed quickly, the phenomenon of empty nest elderly appears. In this research, the author aims at the group of empty nest elderly, using social support theory for theoretical standpoint, using the methods of document research, field observation and case interview. In this paper, the author takes the empty nest elderly in one community of the middle region in Jiangsu province for research object, discussing living and social support condition of the empty nest elderly in this community. The results show that the financial support of the empty nest elderly in this community is fine, the spiritual and life care supports are not good. In formal supports, the government, community and formal organization all play important roles, the government supply the policy and financial support, the community integrates all kinds of resources, supplying day-care pension and other activity support. As for the formal organization, it supplies some spiritual support. As for the informal social support that the empty nest elderly get, family support which is tied by relationship is the core, relatives and friends that tied with emotion supply spiritual support, the neighbor support which is tied by geopolitical is the useful complement of informal support.The results of the investigation show that the formal and informal social support that empty nest elderly get in this community can meet their economy, life care and spiritual needs to certain extent. But in the same time, the social supports of the empty nest elderly get are not enough. To be specific, in formal support, the government’s financial support is not enough and lacking of policy, the community support has some limitations, formal organization support is limited; in the informal social support, the economic support that gain from family, relatives,friends and neighbors is not enough, life care and spiritual support are lacking. In this situation, the social support of city empty nest elderly is unsufficient, we need strengthen the social support from many aspects.In view of the above real shortage, this study combine the research with perspective of social work, the author advocates that from macroscopic view the government need to increase input, perfect policy system to guarantee the lawful rights of empty nest elderly. From medium view, in the basement of community, we need to strengthen the community support system of empty nest elderly. From microcosmic view, we can use case and group work of social work. In the conditions of the weakness of family care and the shortage of society care, the endowment of empty nest elderly can not only simply rely on family and the society, the community need to play an important role in it. In the angle of social work, we need to put the values and methods into the fight of related material resources, living and spiritual support of empty nest elderly, putting forward a new way to the endowment of empty nest elderly, in order to obtain the related resources and the promotion of the abilities which are useful to the healthy and positive aging of empty nest elderly.
