Since the founding of new China, elementary education reform of our country almost had not stopped, especially since the reform and opening up, China’s elementary education reform revealed strength and obtained remarkable achievements. However, there are still many problems, it is necessary to reform for elementary education. Research of the advanced education theory and practice of the word, can promote the rapid development of our education. The United States is strong in education, and the education reform, curriculum setting, textbook selection are worth learning.Curriculum standard is the important basis of textbook compilation, the United States enacted its first national geography curriculum standards "Geography for life: National Geography Standards,1994". Under the guidance of the standard, it compiled new textbooks. Our country issued the new curriculum standard at the beginning of the new century and compiled new textbooks. This paper selects the object are:"world geography" published by Prentice Hall and people’s Education Press published "world geography" published by People Education Press. Prentice Hall press is one well known education press for middle school textbook in American, and its textbooks are wide coverage. The textbooks of People education press once unified used by nation and are in the longest, the most widely used. With the two publishing textbooks as example it has representative meaning."World geography" as part of the regional geography in the junior middle school stage, the structure arrangement, content selection, and teaching evaluation and so on has important significance. So this thesis selected "world geography" as an example to carry on the comparative analysis.This paper mainly uses the comparison method, literature method to study the relation between curriculum standard and the textbook, and to compare the two textbooks. First it is to analysis basic idea, curriculum goal, curriculum content, curriculum evaluation of the two curriculum standard, and comparing the general tendency of the reform of curriculum standards, and to compare two textbooks based on their curriculum standards. This thesis mainly carries on the analysis comparison from6aspects:①the geography curriculum settings of two countries.②the compiling style and feature of two textbooks.③The analysis and comparison of the textbook catalogue and the knowledge.④The analysis and comparison of textbook learning style and learning evaluation of the two textbooks.⑤The comparative analysis of the activities and the operations of the two geography textbooks.⑥The comparative analysis of the image system of the two geography textbooks.Based on the comparison and analysis of the middle school geography textbooks, it learns the advantage of the geography textbook of the United States of America, and makes the following suggestions for our country middle school geography textbooks.①Strengthen the practice of the design of the textbook, focus on linking theory with practice②On the basis of reality of our country, content selection closely links the situation of our country, pay attention to the comparison between our country and the world.③To further optimize of textbook structure.④To strengthen the development of the ability of the students, individual independence.⑤To strengthen to evaluate the diversity of the main body and the method.
