Geography is the study of geography is a comprehensive discipline of thegeographical environment and the relationship of people and land, but because of itscomprehensive, regional, systematic academic characteristics, students could not directlyobserved and studied in the classroom. The map has a unique feature of the performanceof geospatial information, as recorded, transfer of geographic information, which makesthe understanding of the geography classroom teaching and analysis of geographic thingsbecome possible, the map is the second language of geography, is carrying the maingeographical knowledge vector tool.New geography curriculum reform emphasizes students’ map ability, however,according to the survey, the current our country general middle school students abilityweak map.This paper tightly around the "middle school" this research subject, on the analysisof domestic and international about the map ability training experience and insufficientfoundation, combined with today’s geography curriculum standards, from the map abilitycultivation factors--teachers, students and teaching environment in three aspects ofcultivating middle school students’ ability to study and put forward the correspondingcountermeasure map.As a true master of Guangzhou Tianhe District middle school students’ ability tomap the status quo, the author selects Guangzhou Municipal Secondary School (anational level demonstrative high school),113Middle School of Guangzhou city(Guangdong provincial demonstrative high school) and Guangzhou city(Guangdong47Sceneway secondary provincial demonstrative high school) three of themiddle school students as the research object, respectively from the knowledge map readthe map, use the map, mental maps, map teaching, mapping and map analysis in sevenaspects to carry on the questionnaire survey, and combined with the Guangzhoumunicipal secondary school ’s personal experience and the students face-to-face interviews, aims to analyze the students’ ability to map the basic situation and influencefactor. Believe that the ability of middle school students map takes a long time, manymulti-channel and create a positive learning environment, student teachers the rightguidance, psychological map, accept the learning and inquiry-based learning methodscomplement each other., geographic information systems into the classroom teaching,and advancing with the times.
