The Chinese civilization has a long history. Wushu has absorbed all sorts of nutrition of Chinese traditional culture, it has become one of the treasures of Chinese excellent traditional culture. With the development of the times and the improvement of our country’s economic strength and the promotion of political position, the whole world begins to pay attention to our country. They want to have a good understand of us and our culture, Wushu is one representative of typical traditional culture. Along with the changes of the history, Chinese Wushu is influenced by the competitive thoughts of western sports, modern competitive Wushu which is different from Chinese traditional Wushu has emerged, it is separated from traditional Wushu which is also the source of the development of Chinese Wushu.At the same time, but also for the future to provide theoretical basis for defining the traditional Wushu Quan.The modern competitive Wushu are separated from the traditional Wushu Quan categories which are also an inexhaustible source of the development of Chinese martial arts. Making a clear definition of the traditional Wushu Quan categories can help us get a better knowledge and understand of the main content of the traditional Wushu Quan categories, and also can provide theory basis to define the traditional Wushu Quan categories for the future.The author has collected a large amount of information by consulting the school library and network. He interviewed the governors of National Wushu Administrative Centre and the Wushu professors of Institute of Physical Education. The author lived together with old Wushu artists and students of the local Wushu school, he also learned Wushu with them and got their opinions and suggestion about this project. He leaded the above document and expert interview and field survey to a process of thinking by the methods of analysis and comprehensive, induction and deductive. He starts his research and analysis from four parts which are the inheritance of traditional Wushu Quan categories, the background of the formation of traditional Wushu, the time of the development of traditional Wushu Quan categories and the characteristics of traditional Wushu Quan categories. At last he draws a conclusion about the definition of traditional Wushu Quan categories as follow:What we named as the traditional Wushu Quan categories is that it is formed before1949and is passed down by the way which teacher and pupil inheritance is the core. It also possesses the thought of ceremony, virtue and harmony of the Chinese traditional culture. What is more, it should be equipped with complete skill exercise, routine exercise and practical fighting. At last, its style is unique and its methods are fresh and bright.At last, according to the conclusion about the definition of the traditional Wushu Quan categories, it is suggested that General Administration of Sport of China should start to redefine the traditional Wushu Quan categories and focus on the promotion of individual excellent traditional Wushu Quan categories to make it become the Olympic event. The author also suggests that the government pay more attention to the development of traditional Wushu Quan categories and to discover and perfect the traditional culture. In order to spread Chinese traditional culture to the world, we should take the promotion of the thought of ceremony, virtue and harmony of the Chinese traditional culture of the traditional Wushu Quan categories as emphasis and take the traditional Wushu as carrier. It is also suggested that when General Administration of Sport of China promote Wushu all over the schools he can refine the ceremony and virtual of the traditional culture and make it form the outward forms. Wushu can educate the youth in the aspects of thought while it carries on health education. It is suggested that when the modern competitive Wushu athletes can borrow from skill exercises of the traditional Wushu to improve their own body function and sport level and make modern competitive Wushu show its unique charm in the world sports...
