On Current Situation And Development Measures Of Stilts Sport In Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture

Stilts sport is a kind of traditional sports item which integrates skills, recreation andeducation into one and can be enjoyed by the public to build their bodies. It is excavatedby the Physical Department of Jishou University and spreads extensively all over thecountry ever since, especially after it has become a formal event of National MinorityGames of Hunan Province in1986and of the seventh national minority tradition sportsgames in2003. This paper has investigated the current development situation of stiltssport in Xiangxi autonomous prefecture from the perspectives of sports science,sociology, economics and culturology in order to give an objective evaluation andanalysis, find out the restrictions, come up with some measures which would serve asthe reference for the popularization of the item.On the basis of documentation, this paper has elaborated the origin anddevelopment of tilts sport, introduced its exercise forms and analysed thecharacteristics of the sport and its apparatus; and has discovered its value inbody-building, amusement, race, performance, education, culture, social activities andeconomy. By means of survey, on-the-spot investigation, interviewing experts andstatistics, this paper has examined the current development situation of athletics stiltssport, public stilts sport and schools tilts sport and has a very good command of thecurrent development situation of stilts sport in Xiangxi autonomous prefecture.The result of study shows: the competitive level of tilts sport in Xiangxiautonomous prefecture is relatively high, but there is training only in times ofcompetition. It is unpromising as far as public stilts sport is concerned for there are onlyfew counties and cities develop the sport actively, most of the people have notparticipated in it. It is not popular in schools for most of the schools haven’t introducedthe sport in PE classes. The impact of the development of modern sports; school leadersand teachers’ ignorance; the public’s little unawareness and participation; inadequatestilts sport competition organized by governments at all levels; insufficient launching intourism and the particularity of sports apparatus all hinder the development andpopularization of stilts sport in Xiangxi autonomous prefecture. According to thosefactors that influence the sport, this paper has come up with some countermeasures thatwould be helpful in the development of stilts sport in Xiangxi autonomous prefecture,such as strengthening the awareness of protecting folk sports items, introducing thesport in school PE classes actively, improving people’s enthusiasm in the sport,attaching importance to the promotion of training in athletics sports, improving sportsapparatus and regulating competition rules for fair play, and introducing the sport intothe tourist market to embody its economic value.
