The rapid development of digital technology, internet information technology and mobile communication technology speeds up the new media era. New media contains massive information. Its real-time, interactive features quickly attracted the attention from university student community, and exerted a subtle influence on their study, life and thought. As a new means of technology, new media has brought new opportunities to the ideological and political work in the college, as well as new requirements to the content and form of the ideological and political work. How to do a good job in the work of the ideological and political education under the new media environment has become a task that the educators have to face.In the first part of this article, combining the Bachelor background of Communication, I discussed the concept, category, characteristics of new media, and analyzed new media’s impact on society. In the second part, according to the data analysis of the ’college students’ usage of new media’ questionnaire, I gave a comprehensive overview of current status of college students’ use of new media, and the impact of various aspects on college students. Under the new situation, then I discussed the details of the opportunities and challenges of ideological and political work. The third part is the focus of this article. Knowing the new objectives and principles, I started a systematic analysis of the new initiatives of ideological and political work from three aspects, including subject construction, content construction and platform construction.
