The study examined the relative contributions of social support and life events to the meaning in life among middle school students. This study employed three questionnaires to collect data, including the revised Meaning in Life Measure, the revised Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List, and Perceived Social Support Scale. The participants of the study were492middle school students in Nanjing. By analyzing data, the main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1) For Chinese middle school students, the Meaningful Life Measure(MLM) have high reliability and fair validity, and it could be used as the survey tools in this research.(2) Confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) is administered to these test results of Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List. The result shows that the revised model of ASLEC fits well.(3) Male and female middle school students had no significant differences in the meaning in life. However, the significant differences of Meaning in life among schools, grades, family economic levels and academic achievements are found. Moreover, the key middle-school students have higher meaning in life than the students in average schools; the MLM’s score of the grade one students in junior middle school is the highest, while the grade two students in high school is the lowest; the students from the well-off families have the greatest meaning in life, and the students from the poor families have the least meaning in life; the better the students’ grades are, the higher the students’meaning in life are.(4) There is the positive relationship between social support and meaning in life of middle school students. The more social support the students perceive, the higher the students’ meaning in life are.(5) Middle school students’ life events have the negative relationship with the meaning in life. The number of life events and the degree of influence can affect the students’ meaning in life negatively.
