With the rapid development of Chinese economy, Chinese international studentscould be found in all parts of the world. At the same time, coming home right uponfinishing their study or after a few years of work overseas has also become a trend forChinese “Haigui”.There used to be a special aura around this special group of people as a result ofthe advanced technology, fashionable life style and new way of thinking they haddeveloped while abroad. But nowadays, with the enormous expanding of “Haigui”group, they have been attracting more and more attention from the Chinese society forthe problems in face of them upon reentry, like being unable to find a job in thecompetitive job market of China after years’ of overseas study. Meanwhile, scholarlyattention has also been drawn to this group. A dozen of Chinese domestic scholarshave studied the overall adaptation status of returned Chinese students and the reverseculture shock encountered by returnees. However, few of them have systematicallylooked into the reasons that might lead to the different adaptation status of Chinese“Haigui”. Therefore, the present study intends to investigate into some criticalvariables that might influence the repatriation adaptation of returned Chineseinternational students. These variables include communication frequency, expectationand psychological preparedness, as well as some demographic factors. A combinedmethod of qualitative and quantitative study will be applied in the current study. Theauthor hopes that the findings of this study can help “Haigui” better adapt themselvesto their life back home and further studies could be carried out on this issue.
