The quality of the education cannot be separated from the quality of the teachers. Theprofessional knowledge of teachers is an important part of the quality of teachers, and theknowledge of the subject matter is the core part of teacher knowledge. Having rich andsystematic subject matter knowledge is the prerequisite for teachers who can provide thehigh-quality teaching. My county’s new round of curriculum reform put forward a greatchallenge for teachers not only in ability but also in knowledge. In the past20years, manyscholars from domestic and foreign countries have been committed to the study of teacherknowledge. Some studies have pointed out that the level of the knowledge of the subjectmatter for biology teachers is low and cannot meet the requirements of the new curriculum.Teachers need to improve their subject matter knowledge level. As the importance of subjectmatter knowledge to the teachers’ professional development is great, this study attempts toinvestigate the high school biology teachers in order to understand their needs regardingsubject matter knowledge in practice teaching by questionnaire and interview methods. Thisstudy can also give some feasible suggestions and advice to teachers in pre-vocationaleducation and vocational learning and be helpful to improve the level of high school biologyteachers.This study conducted a questionnaire survey of92biology teachers and in-depthinterviews with12biology teachers from high schools and found statistics and analyzingsurvey data.The results showed that: high school biology teachers have a strong demand inthe high school biology elective module of knowledge and in the difficulties and focus ofcompulsory module knowledge, as well as the new additional subject matter knowledge. Indifferent types of knowledge, high school biology teachers need to strengthen and improvethe biological experiments, technical knowledge and biological foreword progress ofknowledge. Because of the subject matter knowledge’s requirement for teachers, the schoolshould adjust and reform the curriculum of normal school students In order to highlight the"normal" in pre-vocational education. Teachers should improve the subject matter knowledgelearning initiative in actual teaching, and schools should try their best to create goodcommunication and learning opportunities for teachers. The content of training and adopttingof a more diverse approach to training is also very important. The training department shouldbe targeted to arrange for relevant training content and take a variety of training methods tomeet the needs of different teachers in vocational education...
