Vocabulary is a fundamental factor in a language. When one is learning aforeign language, the first thing he needs to do is to get used to those vocabularies.Wilkins stated in1978that―Without grammar, very little can be conveyed; withoutvocabulary, nothing can be conveyed.‖Therefore, vocabulary should get mostattention in foreign language teaching and learning. The way of learning vocabularyeffectively is also the hot topic in linguists as well as language teachers during recentdecades.Among all the researches, the most effective way of learning vocabulary provedto be the lexical chunks approach. However, how to put it into reality still remainsunknown. How to put theory into practice is always a problem. Qu Dianning andDeng Jun (2010) put forward a model (Discovery–Presentation-Production Model)based on the former3Ps Model and apply it in the college English teaching. As aresult, this model proves to be very effective and valuable in students‘vocabularylearning. Thus, the author decides to apply the DPP Model in the senior high Englishteaching to see whether it can bring some satisfied outcomes. An experiment wascarried out to testify the effect of the DPP Model in lexical chunks acquisition andSPSS18.0was applied to analyze the data collected from the experiment. Results of the experiment shows that the DPP Model is of great value in helpingstudents raising their ability of generalizing lexical chunks and their learningautonomy can be largely improved.
