Cooperative learning started in America in1970s and it has been widely used in teaching activities these years. It requires that the teaching must be the students-centered and it is convenient for the students to develop their initiative and motivation to meet their needs of personal potential ability. Cooperative learning is called the most needed and successful teaching revolution in the past20years.This thesis meets the relevant requirements of New Standard of English Curriculum and combines the related theories of cooperative learning and then put it into practice in junior school. The research proved that cooperative learning is useful to heighten students’confidence, enhance their interest and can help students to get high scores in the exam at the same time.New Standard of English Curriculum indicates that teachers should create different kinds of activities in order that students can learn from each other and help with each other. From this, students can realize their advantages and disadvantages. What’s more, they will be more willing to cooperate with others and it is good to cultivate their harmonious and healthy characters.This thesis introduces the background, purpose as well as the importance of the research. Then it talks about the definition, theoretical basis and basic elements of cooperative learning. What’s more, it also presents the research about cooperative learning home and abroad. Chapter three of the thesis is the design and implementation of the action research. The following part is data collection of interview and questionnaire. Then the last part is the conclusion part, which presents the problems of the research and the relative solutions to them.
