Psychological conflict is when an individual having two or more desires or need,yet not being able to fulfill both goals or needs,is in a contradictorycondition.Therefore, this study defines it as this: One individual, when two or morematters, purposes,impulses, needs, function at the same time, a self-contradictsituation will result.Migrant workers are a particular social group in Chinese particular historicalperiod, as the byproduct of Chinese urbanization process. The psychologicalconflict among the migrant workers is not only closely related with their physical andmental health as well as their life quality as a big group, but also as a mirror reflectsthe problems in terms of the need of the society at this current particular historicalperiod, social conflict and social security.Therefore, the study of their psychologicalconflict will not only provide information on the living condition of those migrantworkers to help us further understand them, but also it will guide us in our work tohelp improve their life quality, meanwhile,it will offer suggestions on the constructionof an aiding system and the improvement of the social security system.New generation of migrant workers refers to those young people who were bornand grew up in the1980s, of whom post-80s account for the majority. They areusually referred to as the second generation farmers,or new generation of migrantworkers. Compared with the older generation migrant workers,they have theirdistinctive features in terms of the growing background, value orientation, and the lifethey face and growing tasks. So, the comparative study of the psychological conflictdifference between the older and new generation migrant workers will help usunderstand the characteristics of the psychological conflict among these two groups,and also get the insight into the causes of the psychological conflict and social valuesystem. Recently, psychological problems caused by mental conflict among migrantworkers have received wide attention from the whole society. The psychologicalconflict among migrante workers has become a hot issue in the study of socialpsychology. Psychologists conducted researches from different perspective into thepsychological conflict among migrate workers, including the causes leading to theconflict, ways to ease the conflict, but all have remained on the theoretical levelwithout any in-depth empirical study. Meanwhile because of the researchers’difference in perspective, there are still controversy in the field and somedisagreement on the construction of migrant workers’ psychological conflict. There isalso a lack of effective questionnaire that can measure the conflict. The conclusion ofresearch on the characteristics of the psychological conflict among migrant workers isnot agreed upon.This study, based on the analysis of existent researches, uses a questionnaire thatwas designed by myself: Questionnaire on psychological conflict among migrantworkers. It gathers the information of419migrant workers aged from16to55,questions covering6aspects of issues including life, career, household belongings,locality, development, love and family, communication; as well as demographicquestions on gender, degree,trade, locality,income, time engaging in labour.Byanalyzing the difference of the two generations on their psychological conflict,conclusion is reached as follow:1、The psychological conflict index among the older generation migrant workersis obviously higher than that of the new generation in terms of theirbelonging,development plan,emotion conflict,communication.2、Due to life responsibility, male migrant workers have more psychologicalproblem than female, and older generation workers have more psychologicalproblems than the younger ones.3、Because the difference in their life expectation, migrant workers coming out ofthe Jilin province have lower psychological conflict.4、With the improvement of their education, there is a trend that psychologicalproblems among migrant workers will decrease. 5、 Migrant workers engaging in construction work have higher rate ofpsychological conflict than those working in shipping and manufacturing. Those whowork in construction and shipping have more psychological problems than those inmanufacturing.6、With the increase of income, migrant workers’ psychological problems havedemonstrated an abrupt down and rise in the chart.7、With the increase of working experience, the psychological conflict amongmigrant workers shows first a drop and then rise in the chart.
