In 1950s, China has finally established a dual household registration system. It built a border between urban and rural, not only in geographical space, but also in the self-identity. Viewed as a whole,it has established the basic framework of China's social structure, and determined the identity of Chinese peasants. Even after the reform in 1978,the dual social structure still existed, the existed system of household registration status remains in force. Although the economic status of farmers has increased, their social status has not changed significantly. The farmers are still at the bottom of the social pyramid.Since the early 1980s, as the epitome of social change and transformation, migrant workers has made great contributions in China's modernization process. However, the exist of migrant workers hastened many inevitable economic and social issues.Today, the migrant workers have become the core issue of the "three rural"problems. Actually, the problem of "migrant workers" is the problem of status.Under the impetus of the policy, the identities of migrant workers experienced a "vagrants" "migrant workers" "working as migrant workers," and recently been nationally recognized "new industries" and "new industrial sectors",their identities were eventually recognized by the state. However, their own identities are conflict today. As to the elder migrant workers, the new generation of migrant workers, great changes have taken place in their self-identity. They no longer work only for survival, they pay more attention to their own consumption. They are no longer willing to work in dirty and tiring condition, they, like their predecessors, are still farmers.China's new generation migrant workers relate to the various aspects of social transformation, such as peasants move to cities, the conversion to urban, and the rural social changes. The new generation of migrant workers is very important to the harmonious society. So,the study of their self-identity is of great practical and theoretical significance. From the perspective of social constructivism, summarized and drew social redecessors studies, I investigated the self-identity of the new generation of migrant workers in Changchun City. The paper will use the mixed research methods. In the study of their difference between the first and the new generation migrant workers,I will use comparative analysis method. The survey will do mainly in the urban of Changchun, and use sampling method in the streets and in the location where the migrant workers inhabit. A total of 120 copies of the questionnaire, including 76 of the new generation of migrant workers and 31 of the first generation of migrant workers. At last,I will analysis comparative by weighting. The identity of the target systems focused primarily on self-identification. A total of six people were interviewed in depth. The study shows that the new generation of migrant workers in the academic community is largely born after 1980,and work in cities. Compared with the first generation of migrant workers, the new generation mainly were born in the 1980s, started to work in cities mostly in the lately of 1990s, and they mostly have not get married. As to the first generation, the new generation has less experience in farming, and mostly start to work just after graduation. As for education, they have better educational background, to be good at taking advantage of newspapers and network to gather information of employment.Their purpose not only for life but also for pay. They enjoy material and spiritual life , pursuit fashion clothes and the work not tyring. Also, the new generation of migrant workers have shown a higher self-confidence, high self-expectations , they are interested in the hot career subjected to market economy.Due to the above-mentioned changes in the new generation of migrant workers, they have a greater confusion when they faced the same living and working environment, and make different behaviories. So,there is a dilemma of self-identity. They do not recognize their status as a peasant, but it was impossible to get the city's status. They are confused about their status, that is who they are. Compared with the country partners, they tend to recongnize themselves as a city person, and with the public, the sense of urban sharply lower. They often do not know where is the future. They yearned for cities, but were rejected by cities, they are rooted in the rural areas, however they left the rural areas. In short, compared with the first generation of migrant workers, they can not fully merge into the cities, also, they are unwilling to return to the original status. From the perspective of social constructivism,I think that the plight of self-identity comes from the pursuit of individual self-identification process and the social system, the space between social interaction, and also from the conflict between social construction and self-construction. After investigate, I found that the direct cause is that social distance comes from urban adaptation ,and an important cause is the sense of relative deprivation comes from work and live in cities. What's more, the fundamental reason is the contradiction comes between the cultural objectives pursued by the new generation of migrant workers, the existing system, and cultural means. Therefore, in order to find the way of the plight of the new generation migrant workers, we must think about it between the internal conditions ,the external environment and policies. First, improving their quality is the prerequisite and basis for identity plight;Secondly, the city government, the community and the residents should change their work methods and attitudes to accept the new generation of migrant workers, and create a relaxing social environment. Finally, the government should provide quality products and services to the them.Only solute the identity plight of the new generation of migrant workers , will it be possible for them to go well with the modern urban life and the modern urban society. This is the central argument of the social constructivism,it regards that only when what the individual constructed, unique subjective and theoretical compatible with the social and physical world, the individual can be developed.
