The Study On Building World-Class University Project In Taiwan

"Aim for the Top University Project" is put forward by Taiwan, trying to buildworld-class universities. The project was formally implemented in2006, mainlyincluding two phases: the first phase from2006to2010and the second from2011to2015. This program intends to improve its international competitiveness by fundingthose local universities and introducing the competition mechanism. In the process ofpromoting the development of Higher Education in the Taiwan region,"Aim for theTop University Project" played a very important and positive role. Taiwan’s fundeduniversities and colleges have been enhanced in the aspects of school conditions,research capacity, international cooperation and communication and so on since theplan was implemented five years ago. The plan has strongly promoted the all-round,healthy and harmonious developing of Higher Education.The main body content of this thesis is composed of five parts: The first partmakes an analysis on the introduced background of Taiwan implanting “Aim for TopUniversity Project” from extraterritorial influence and inside island status. Thesecond part introduces the aim and main content of “Aim for Top University Project”.The third part talks about the implementations. For example, applicantqualifications、permitting processes、standard of review and the problem of thisproject and so on. The forth part analysis the achievements in this project and thesignificance of the “Aim for Top University Project”.Taiwan and the mainland sharethe same blood of splendid history and culture, so research on the higher education ofTaiwan can be a good example and guidance in promoting mainland universities intofirst-class ones in the world.
