In recent years, with profound changes of the external environment and the institutional environment of the university, our country’s higher education gradually changes from scale development mode for the development of mainly pay attention to quality and structure of connotative development mode. Universities carried out active exploration in the internal management system, division system reform to upsurge. Division system reform as an important strategic choice in university internal governance structure, involving people, goods and content integration of colleges and universities. At present, the division system reform at the preliminary exploration stage, facing a lot of challenges in the process of division system reform. Based on the analysis of division system reform effect of research university, it could be a reference for department system reform to further advance.In this paper, based on the contingency theory and resource based theory, with the perspectives of dynamic strategy adaptability, analyzing the adaptability of dynamic strategy of division system reform. Pattern of division system at home and abroad, considering present domestic situation of division system reform, building theoretical analysis framework of dynamic strategy adaptability of division system for research universities. Rationalize the relationship between the division system reform with internal and external environment, resources and organizational elements. Then points out research university division system dynamic strategic adaptation mechanisms, namely in the process of dynamic change of environmental adaptation, the resources adaptation and the organization adaptation. Dynamic strategy adaptation is under the process of the dynamic change, with continuous adjustment to achieve consistent with division system reform goals to the best state. Based on the mechanism of research university division system dynamic strategy adaption, using Dalian University of Technology as object of case study, analyzing environment, resource and organization adaptability. Then evaluate its reform efforts. Finally, by summing up problems arising from the division system reform, putting forward division system reform optimization suggestions.
